Anita Fineday

The Honorable Anita Fineday is an enrolled member of the White Earth Tribal Nation. She is currently the Managing Director of the Indian Child Welfare Program for the Casey Family Programs. She has held this position since 2011. She previously served as the Chief Judge for the White Earth Tribal Nation for 14 years and also served as an associate judge for the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe and the Grand Portage Band of Chippewa. Ms. Fineday  taught federal Indian law and policy at the tribal college, university, and law school levels. She served as the Solicitor General for the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe and Executive Director of the Indian Child Welfare Law Center.

Ms. Fineday was the first Native American woman to argue in the Minnesota Supreme Court. She has served on a variety of boards including serving as the Chair of the board of directors for the Regional Native Public Defense Corporation and the secretary for the board of Anishinabe Legal Services.

She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Indiana University, a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Colorado School of Law.
